Das digitale Studium startet mit den Welcome Weeks, ein zweiwöchiges Orientierungsprogramm, das den neu eingeschriebenen Studierenden, die u.a. in Indien, Ghana, Kenia, Kambodscha und Irland leben, einen reibungslosen Start in eine akademische Laufbahn bietet. Ziel dieser Wochen ist es, die digital Studierenden mit der Mission, der akademischen Kultur und den Ressourcen der neuen Universität vertraut zu machen, in das virtuell zu meisternde Studium einzuführen und dabei ein echtes Gemeinschaftsgefühl in der virtuelle Zusammenarbeit zu fördern.
Staatliche Anerkennung und innovative Studienprogramme
Die German UDS wurde im Februar 2025 zugelassen und erhielt von Ministerium Dr. Manja Schüle vom Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kultur die staatliche Anerkennung. Mit ihrer innovativen Herangehensweise, digital Studiengänge für Studieninteressierte in aller Welt global zugänglich zu machen, setzt die Universität ganz neue Maßstäbe, mittels digitaler Lehre die akademische Qualität deutscher Universitäten globaler zugänglich zu machen.
Studienangebot
Zum Start bietet die German UDS folgende Studienprogramme an:
• 1-jährige MBA-Programme in "Digital Transformation" und "Digital Technologies",
• 2-jährige Masterstudiengänge in “Applied AI”, “Advanced Digital Reality”, “Cybersecurity” und “Digital Leadership” und
• acht 3-monatige Micro-Degree-Programme für die berufliche Weiterbildungen.
Alle Kurse werden ausschließlich in englischer Sprache angeboten und sind vollständig digital absolvierbar.
Die German University of Digital Science wurde von zwei erfahrenen Experten im Bereich der Digitalwissenschaften gegründet: Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel und Prof. Dr. Mike Friedrichsen.
Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel war von 2004 bis März 2023 Institutsdirektor und CEO des renommierten Hasso-Plattner-Instituts für Digital Engineering (HPI) an der Universität Potsdam. Er bringt jahrzehntelange Erfahrung in der Informatik und digitalen Bildung mit, unter anderem durch die Entwicklung und den Betrieb der erfolgreichen Online-Lernplattform openHPI.de.
Prof. Dr. Mike Friedrichsen war 25 Jahre lang Professor für Wirtschaftsinformatik und digitale Medien an der Stuttgart Media University. Er kann auf jahrzehntelange Erfahrung in der digitalen Lehre und im Umgang mit digitalen Medien verweisen. Beide Gründer teilen die Vision, den weltweiten Zugang zu digitaler Bildung zu demokratisieren und hochwertiges, innovatives Wissen zu vermitteln, das für die Bewältigung der digitalen Transformation notwendig ist.

Bewerbung und Studiengebühren
Die Bewerbungsphase für den nächsten Studienstart am 1. Oktober 2025 beginnt am 15. April 2025. Die Studiengebühren betragen 7.500 Euro pro Studienjahr.
Standort und Infrastruktur
Auch als vollständig digital operierende Universität braucht die German UDS ein Headquarter und Maschinenhaus. Das befindet sich im „CloudHouse“ in der Medienstadt Babelsberg in Potsdam und beherbergt die Server und IT Infrastrukturen für den weltweiten Lehrbetrieb.
Die German UDS setzt mit ihrem innovativen Konzept neue Maßstäbe in der Hochschulbildung und adressiert den globalen IT-Fachkräftemangel durch zugängliche, hochwertige digitale Bildung.

Welcome Weeks
The digital study program starts with the Welcome Weeks, a two-week orientation program that offers newly enrolled students living in India, Ghana, Kenya, Cambodia and Ireland, among other countries, a smooth start to their academic careers. The goal of these weeks is to familiarize digital students with the new university's mission, academic culture and resources, introduce them to the virtual curriculum to be mastered, and foster a true sense of community in virtual collaboration.
State recognition and innovative study programs
The German UDS was approved in February 2025 and received state recognition from Minister Dr. Manja Schüle of the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture. With its innovative approach to making digital degree programs globally accessible to prospective students all over the world, the university is setting completely new standards in making the academic quality of German universities more globally accessible through digital teaching.
Study programs
The German UDS is offering the following study programs at the start:
• 1-year MBA programs in “Digital Transformation” and “Digital Technologies”,

The German University of Digital Science was founded by two experienced experts in the field of digital science: Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel and Prof. Dr. Mike Friedrichsen.
Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel was Institute Director and CEO of the renowned Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering (HPI) at the University of Potsdam from 2004 to March 2023. He brings decades of experience in computer science and digital education, including the development and operation of the successful online learning platform openHPI.de.
Prof. Dr. Mike Friedrichsen was Professor of Business Informatics and Digital Media at Stuttgart Media University for 25 years. He has decades of experience in digital teaching and working with digital media. Both founders share the vision of democratizing global access to digital education and imparting high-quality, innovative knowledge necessary to master digital transformation.

Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel, co-founder and president of the university, adds: “The start of studies on April 1 is an important milestone, but it only marks the beginning of our journey. Our goal is to develop the German UDS into an internationally recognized and sought-after institution that is perceived as a pioneer in digital education not only in Germany and Europe, but worldwide.”
Application and tuition fees
The application phase for the next intake of students on October 1, 2025 will begin on April 15, 2025. Tuition fees amount to 7,500 euros per academic year.
Location and infrastructure
As a fully digitally operating university, the German UDS also needs a headquarters and machine house. This is located in the “CloudHouse” in the media city of Babelsberg in Potsdam and houses the servers and IT infrastructure for global teaching operations.
With its innovative concept, the German UDS is setting new standards in higher education and addressing the global IT skills shortage through accessible, high-quality digital education.
