
Christoph Meinel is one of the two founders of the German University of Digital Science, Germany’s first fully digital university. Following state accreditation, the university began academic operations on April 1, 2025, offering one-year MBA programs in Digital Transformation and Digital Technology, as well as two-year Master’s programs in Applied Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Advanced Digital Reality, and Digital Leadership.
At German UDS, Prof. Meinel shapes the academic vision and digital-first university model, drawing on decades of experience in digital engineering, online education, and research-driven teaching. Prior to founding German UDS, he led the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering at the University of Potsdam for nearly twenty years and served as Professor of Computer Science and Founding Dean of the Faculty of Digital Engineering.
Christoph Meinel is the author of numerous text books on the Internet and web technologies as well as an editor. He has developed the openHPI learning platform with millions of enrolled learners. He is member of acatech, the National Academy of Science and Technology, and chair person or member of many scientific and advisory boards, e.g. he is member of the Technion Governors Board.

Applying digital capabilities to processes, products, and assets to improve efficiency, enhance customer value, manage risk, and create new revenue opportunities is key to business success. This module provides an advanced understanding of the role of digital technologies in today's and tomorrow's business environment and their impact on economies and societies. The module focuses on the nature of digital media and how they are encoded and compressed, the fundamentals of the Internet, the WWW, and emerging digital technologies. All of this is discussed against the backdrop of the ongoing digitization of all parts of our lives, across industries, and for the advancement of the public sector. Therefore, the module provides students with a holistic view of digital technologies and their application in business and society.
