About This Course
Over the course of 8 weeks, students will examine the principles, technologies, and practices that power large-scale data processing and cloud-based AI solutions. This module integrates conceptual foundations with practical demonstrations, enabling you to understand not only how cloud and big data systems are designed, but also how they are applied in modern business and research contexts.
A central component of this module is the use of cloud platforms and software systems to work with large-scale data.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Explore big data concepts and why they matter for organizations today
- Understand and compare cloud deployment and service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
- Work with databases and SQL for structured data management
- Study data warehouses and ETL/ELT processes for scalable analytics
- Implement data ingestion, partitioning, and integration with BI tools
- Learn Docker and containerization as essential technologies for cloud-native applications
- Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) in the cloud
- Train and evaluate machine learning models using cloud-based environments

- German UDS Micro Degrees are compatible with the European MOOC Consortiums Common Micro Credentials Framework.
- Micro Degrees will be rewarded with an equivalent of 5 ECTS.
- Micro Degrees are offered to non-regular students and require a fee of €900.
Requirements
This module assumes:
- Familiarity with Python (data processing and scripting)
- Interest to use databases, data warehousing and SQL
- Interest in learning cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
